Awesome, glitzy, and wet

Week 5

from the Grand Canyon to Vegas, from Vegas to the California Coast

1720 km

It was a week chock full of sights. And lots of driving. The Grand Canyon, while surely immense and awesome, was certainly not beautiful after Canyon de Chelly. We clocked several miles within the Canyon itself, and drove many more to make our way to the city of lights and promise. I could have spent hours in Vegas just people watching, and I managed to restrain myself enough to lose only $7 in quarters in the slots. The drive across California was not nearly so long as I had feared--we broke the driving into two days and we took little roads framed with picturesque farms and grasslands. The Pacific coast was two jewels in one: a gorgeous new view for the land-locked and re-connection with a long-lost cousin.
