Hunting

Day 38, May 9, 1997

Kirk Creek State Park, CA

0 km in three days

I have discovered the lure of hunting. While I have no interest in killing animals, the thrill of the hunt can be climaxed by shooting a camera. I stalked a black bird with a red and yellow strip on its wings for much of the afternoon. I was not successful capturing the mole in the early evening, but I am hoping Ralph's attempts were successful. Patience is not normally one of my qualities, but "getting the little critters" was satisfying.

We went down to the ocean in the morning and discovered we had misread the tide, so we went back again in the afternoon. I spent some time reading magazines and soaking up the sun, as did Erica. Ralph, with his fair English skin, stayed under cover.
