Almost
every popular history book of Kent identifies Castle Rough as the
location of a raid by the Saxon pirates Hengist and Horsa.
It
sounds romantic, and as the site lies almost inaccessibly in the
midst of dull marshland next to a huge paper mill, few people have
been there and disagreed.
Castle
Rough is located on marshes south-east of Kemsley, Kent.
I
directed a small excavation on the site in 1972. Dating evidence
discovered during the excavation indicates that the site is Medieval
or later.

It
looks idyllic, but...

Nice
vertical sections and clean edges!!
