Lenore
is an unusual name. Edgar Allen Poe perhaps invented it to rhyme
with "never more" in his poem "The Raven".
Anyway,
Lenore was thrilled to discover that there is a lake named after
her, and so we visited it at 6am on the rainy morning after we were
so rudely awakened at Sun
Lakes, Washington.
Like
its namesake, it is a very pleasant lake. It also has caves nearby,
in which early humans sheltered.
A
couple of fishermen floated about in their blown-up inner tubes,
mosquitoes whined, birds sang and ducks quarreled. Otherwise it
was very quiet.
Overlooking
the lake are a couple of shallow caves that despite their unprepossessing
and not terribly comfortable appearance had been occupied in the
distant past.
