Oregon Coast
...my very first sea slug
May, 1997

We crunched down to Harrison beach over hundreds of black and silver centipedes that were crawling, suicidally, everywhere — on the roads, the paths, in the shower stalls...

This is a wonderful spot. Erica saw Orca whales. The sun used the rocks and islets as silhouette puppets. As the tide retreated, millions of sand fleas hopped around our ankles, feeding on the glittering bodies of tiny crustaceans.

The Oregon coast is much-vaunted. It is sometimes over-done. The seals, for example, have become a tawdry, commercial crowd-puller.

But the majority of the coastline is just too magnificent to spoil. We especially fell in love with the Oregon dunes.
